When replacing a failed oil seal that has been removed from the equipment, do not measure the used seal as it will give you erroneous measurements. Along with the fact that different manufacturers use different design interferences, the oil seal is used and has been worn down, and perhaps damaged during removal. Oil seals are manufactured to fit the customer’s equipment, so all you need to do is provide our applications group with the shaft diameter, bore diameter, and bore depth of the equipment. Also, some oil seals are marked or stamped with the equipment dimensions that it fits into (eg. 70 90 10).
