The end user manufactures nutritional supplements using a steam retort to sterilize in batches after bottling. They were experiencing loss of load on the trunnion doors that allow access to the bearings for maintenance and replacement. This resulted in leaks and gaskets being pulled into the process, due to high vacuum during the heating phase. The end-user had previously used a competitor’s skived, glass-filled PTFE material and had been experiencing gasket failure every three to four weeks.
